The 1st Misconception: The lights have the same appearance or frame, so the lights are the same.

The main components of Solar street lights include the frame, LED, battery, and controller. So with the same frame doesn’t mean the lights are the same or even have the same functions and quality.

The 2nd Misconception: The lamp with the same specifications on the data-sheet is the same.

Yes, that’s true for some suppliers. However, there are several solar street lights suppliers or factories in China, and each one of them have different market positioning (Low-end, mid-range, high-end, etc.), so, they use different materials for different quality standards.

For example, the battery, specifications on all data-sheets are LiFePO4, but some suppliers or factories may use A grade, some B grade, and others C or D grade. The controller, both are the smart type, some suppliers can use MPPT type and others use PWM type, even if both controllers are the MPPT type, the quality and stability can also vary.

Moreover, buyers should be very mindful since there are some factories that can list specifications on the data-sheets, but the products they produce or deliver are completely different from what they promised Stated on the data-sheet”.

So with the same specifications on the data-sheet doesn’t always mean the lamps are the same.

The 3rd Misconception: Wattage means brightness. No! Many customers only pay attention to the power (in wattage) of the solar panel during interacting with suppliers. However, more attention should be paid to the lumens (brightness) of the lights (lamps). Different lamp beads and production processes or used techno. can have different light effects. For instance, with the same 50W lamp, some suppliers may only be able to achieve about 4000 lumens, while some can reach the 6000 lumens. NOMO uses the connected LED lens and has high efficient and bright LED chips, which can reach at least 190lm/w. So it is advised to take the Lumens into consideration when purchasing solar-powered LED street lights.

The 4th Misconception: Cheaper prices means better cost effective.

Not with Solar Lights, though. Cheaper prices are not always a better cost-effective, especially with solar street lights. As the saying goes: "便宜不好,好不便宜", which literally means “Cheap is not Good, Good is not Cheap = You get what you pay for”.

The market competition is extremely tight, and most manufacturers try to offer suitable products at reasonable prices. But there are some suppliers who are just looking for a one-time transaction with buyers. They will try to lure buyers with their lowest prices that the market is not even offering. These type of suppliers will often make use of very cheap materials for their products, then sell at very low prices. For the first 3 months, their solar lamps may work properly, however, after 4, 5 or 6 months of operation, the lights will start malfunctioning or even stop operating. And, when you contact the suppliers for after-sale services or to deal with the issues, they just disappeared completely.

Yes, prices are important, but the quality of a good should be a top priority. In general, Solar street lamps has to work for many years (at least 5 years), but with a poor quality, they will often fail within 6 months, start causing problems, which then lead to high maintenance costs, and customers will gradually lose confidence in the product, resulting in bad reputation, loss, etc.
